~ June 5th is international trail
day! ~
|
The next meeting is Tuesday, June 1st
at 7:00 pm, at the Senior Center. Come on down, get
involved, and have some fun!
The Friends are planning a new, big project! What if
Milford broke the world's record for the longest hopscotch
game along our trail??
We can! The current world record is 3 miles. With
our 2.6 trail, we can double back and leave that record
in the dust! Can we go 5 miles??? This length is higher
than Mt. Everest!
It could be a fundraising event for the Milford trail and its phase 2 construction.
Big project! Can we do it? Yes we can!
We are beginning to plan and need volunteers to help
coordinate the historic event for the Town of Milford
and the Trail.
Please get involved and come to the next Friends meeting.
If you cannot make the meeting, or have questions please
contact Dave Cassinelli at davecassinelli@comcast.net
or 508-667-3311. Thank you and we look forward to seeing
you soon!
Annual Trail Earth Day Clean Up – April
24, 2010
Trail maintenance was the major order of business
at this year’s Trail clean up for the more than 30
volunteers that participated. Armed with shovels, edgers,
leaf blowers representing many of the Trail’s
Adopter organizations, the multi-purpose 2.8 mile long
phase 1 portion was cleared of winter debris and trash.
Approximately 1 mile (both sides) of the trail beginning
near Fino Field and continuing to Dilla St crossing
was edged by volunteers using an edger machine donated
for use by Ace Hardware of Milford and
hand held edgers & shovels
to cut & push back the growth of grass from narrowing
the paved pathway. Flowers and mulch was added to the
Sacred Heart trailhead area surrounding the new information
kiosk - the latest Eagle Scout project along the trail.
The Friends of the Milford Upper Charles Trail extends
their great appreciation and thanks to the following
individuals who donated their time and muscle power to
this maintenance effort.
Adopter organizations represented included Montgomery
Lodge of Masons, Alternatives Unlimited, Midtown Fitness
Center, Italian American Vets, and Hockamock Area YMCA.

For the safety, health & enjoyment
of everyone, please be aware of the following:
-
People enjoying the trail with their dogs must ‘scoop the
poop’ their pets deposit - per Milford
town by-law. Dog clean
up stations are located at Fino Field, Louisa Lake & just before
the Rte 495 crossing.
-
Bikes, roller bladers, people with strollers, etc, please pass
others on the left & let the people you are passing know by saying, “Passing
on your left”.
-
Cross Dilla St safely – observe the flashing red beacons,
stop before stepping into the roadway, look both ways & then
proceed safely across.
-
Mile markers are located on the paved area designated with a
letter. In the event of an emergency, call 911 and provide the
letter & mile
marking (ex: Trail A, ¼ mile)
-
Chat with friends while resting along any of the 16 granite benches
along the trail or pull-off areas.
-
Leave no trace behind – carry your trash out or use the
trash receptacles located near the dog clean up stations.
