"Find Yourself Fridays"
The JAG Youth Council, Juvenile Advocacy Group and the Milford Youth Center are excited to host their first “Find Yourself Fridays" youth event of the new school year. The event will be held on Friday, September 30th, 2011 from 7-10 pm at the Milford Youth Center and will include music, dancing, open gym, raffles, snacks and an area to watch a movie selected by the council!
This month, the theme of the event will be “Back to School!” Youth will be charged a small entrance fee of $2.00, or $1.00 if the student(s) bring a pair of gently used or new sneakers. The small fee will assist in funding more of the Find Yourself Friday events. The sneakers will be sent and distributed to youth in the Boca Chica Region of the Dominican Republic. Last year over 100 youth were given sneakers with an outfit as a holiday gift, due to the generosity of so many local families. Rev. Jose Medina of Framingham and Jenny Gonzalez of Milford, along with other volunteers, will return to the Dominican Republic in December to distribute the sneakers! The sneakers will be sent and distributed to youth in the Boca Chica region of the Dominican Republic.
The Youth did an amazing job last year hosting these successful events which saw over 100 youth attending each month and donating to various charities, like Milford Housing Authority, Cell Phones for Soldiers, Best Buddies and Compassionate Care ALS. The premise behind Find Yourself Fridays is to create a healthy, fun and educational environment for our youth while offering them an opportunity to improve their community. Funding for "Find Yourself Fridays" is supported by the United Way of Tri-County Youth Venture Program and CHNA-6.
For more information, or if you would like to volunteer at the event please contact Youth Council Coordinator Jen Ward at jenward24@gmail.com or 508-473-1756, or visit www.jagnetwork.org.
